📚 Paddington Bear – A British Icon

First introduced in 1958 by author Michael Bond, Paddington Bear is one of the most enduring characters in British children’s literature. Famously found at Paddington Station in London with a tag that read “Please look after this bear”, Paddington quickly became a symbol of kindness, curiosity, and old-fashioned good manners — not to mention a fan of marmalade sandwiches.

Over the decades, Paddington has featured in books, television series, and blockbuster films, becoming a beloved figure worldwide.

🧵 Gabrielle Designs – The Original Makers

Gabrielle Designs was a small family-run company based in Doncaster, founded by Shirley Clarkson in the early 1970s. She originally made Paddington Bears for her children — one of whom was Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear fame.

The demand for these bears quickly grew, and Gabrielle Designs became the first official licensee to produce Paddington Bear soft toys. Each one was handmade and came with clothing, accessories, and a signed label, making them some of the most collectible Paddington memorabilia today.

Aunt Lucy was added to the Gabrielle range later on and was produced in much smaller numbers, making her especially desirable in today’s market.
