Unique Auctions is proud to announce the inclusion of a rare ‘Beaverman’ oak table in its upcoming Antiques, Collectors & Toy Auction, scheduled for Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th May 2025. This exceptional piece represents a significant example of the Yorkshire Critter Carvers’ tradition, a movement inspired by the renowned Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson.
The ‘Beaverman’ moniker refers to Colin Almack, a distinguished craftsman who, like many of his contemporaries, trained in Thompson’s Kilburn workshop. Almack’s work is characterized by the signature beaver motif carved into each piece, symbolizing the artisanal quality and heritage of the Yorkshire Critters. These craftsmen, active from the 1930s onwards, are celebrated for their handcrafted oak furniture, each piece bearing a unique animal signature, such as the squirrel, rabbit, or fox, denoting its creator.
The table on offer showcases the meticulous craftsmanship and timeless design that have become synonymous with the Beaverman’s work. Its inclusion in the May auction presents a rare opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to acquire a piece of Yorkshire’s rich woodworking legacy.
In addition to the Beaverman table, the auction will feature a diverse array of antiques, collectibles, and toys, catering to a wide range of interests and tastes. Unique Auctions continues to uphold its reputation for offering distinctive and high-quality items to its clientele.
