Unique Auction’s Antiques & Collectors auction on the 28th and 29th January includes a collection of medals for Private G Heal who served in both the Derby Regiment and Lincoln Regiment. They include the Queen’s South Africa Medal (2484 Pte G Heal Derby Regi) with 4 clasps (Diamond Hill, Johannesburg, Orange Free State and Cape Colony) whilst in the Derby Regiment and later a set and WWI Medals (3-8337 Pte G J Heal Linc R) whilst in the Lincoln Regiment. The collection also includes wounded in action papers from 24 August 1915 and a further letter regarding Private G Heal.

State clasps
“CAPE COLONY” – Awarded to all troops in the Cape of Good Hope at any time between 11 October 1899 and 31 May 1902 inclusive, who had not received a clasp for a specific action in the Cape of Good Hope, or the “Natal” clasp.
“ORANGE FREE STATE” – Awarded to all troops in the Orange Free State at any time between 28 February 1900 and 31 May 1902 inclusive, who had not received a clasp for a specific action in the Orange Free State.

Battle Clasps
“DIAMOND HILL” – Awarded to all troops who, on 11 or 12 June 1900, were east of a north-south line drawn through Silverton Siding and north of an east-west line drawn through Vlakfontein in the South African Republic.
“JOHANNESBURG” – Awarded to all troops who, on 29 May 1900, were north of an east-west line drawn through Klip River Station (exclusive) and east of a north-south line drawn through Krugersdorp Station (inclusive) in the South African Republic.
