Is 14.5 Hours the Longest, Continuous Auction by a Single Auctioneer in the UK and Internationally?

During Unique Auctions 9th New Year’s Day 2019 mammoth sale offering a total of 1,501 Lots, does Terry Woodcock, as the lone auctioneer and a marathon stint of 14 hrs 20 minutes of continuous ‘live’ auctioneering hold the UK and world record for the longest and continuous bout of auctioneering?

The auction attracted over 1,658 worldwide bidders from over 41 countries including Australia; USA; Vietnam; China; South Korea. Many bidders joined the auction online on the Saleroom and Liveauctioneers.com. In addition, the auction also attracted many to attend in person.

Is this a National and World record?

Terry Woodcock, Proprietor and Chief Auctioneer stated that ‘the atmosphere of the auction rooms was exhilarating with bidding wars and also exceptional prices achieved. We started at 9:00 am and finished at 11.20 pm. The quality of the lots was extremely high with many rare items. Items that achieved a high hammer price included a Victorian Walnut Music Box selling for £5,000, and a collection of unseen Beatles memorabilia and copyright free images that sold for £2,700 amongst many other interesting and rare items’.

Each year Unique Auction’s special New Year’s Day Auction is an ambitious event. After celebrating 50 years in the antiques trade and continuous expansion year on year, this will be our 10th New Year’s Day Auction – January 1st  2020. Once again it plans to be an exciting auction that is now a recognised event in the international auction calendar.

Has anyone exceeded 14 hours 20 minutes of continuous auctioneering to date?
