Charles Dickens Daily News No 1 January 21st 1846 including Travelling Letters – 2016

charles dickens travelling letters written on the road
A rare newspaper featuring Charles Dickens Travelling Letters Written on the Road will be of significance at Unique Auctions Antiques & Collectors auction on the 27th and 28th February. The Dickens Travelling Letters features in the first ever edition of the The Daily News published on Wednesday 21st 1846.

The Daily News was founded in 1846 by Charles Dickens, who also served as the newspaper’s first editor. It was conceived as a radical rival to the right-wing Morning Chronicle. The paper was not at first a commercial success. Dickens edited 17 issues before handing over the editorship to his friend John Forster, who had more experience in journalism than Dickens.
