Antique & Early Hand Weapon Collection at Unique – 2016

Unique Auctions have been chosen to sell another significant collection of antique and early hand weapons at their two day Antiques & Collectors auction on the 23rd and 24th April. Unique Auctions have sold several collections of weapons in the last few months including a 18th C Sword for £19,800 (click for more details).

The Antique & Early Hand Weapon Collection includes:

Siamese Circular Brass Shield with inlaid silver decoration

 Siamese Circular Brass Shield with inlaid silver decoration, embossed decoration of animals, birds and riders, painted red and four brass floral bosses.  On the reverse there are four steel rings holding the original velvet straps and knuckle rest.  Provenance: From a Lincoln collection; formed before 1960.

A classical Berber Jambiya from Morocco locally called Koumaya

A classical Berber Jambiya from Morocco (locally called Koumaya), early 19th century with a curved blade, waisted hard wood hilt and brass scabbard with silver inlay chased with foliate designs.  Provenance: from and old Lincoln collection.  The Jambiya measures 392mm long with a 220mm blade.

The Moroccan Jambiya shape is derived from a mix of influences of Arab Jambiya dagger and Hispano-Moorish style of daggers. These Jambiya daggers are carried with a baldric over the right shoulder.

A 19th century Teke Spear with a hard wood shaft3/ A 19th century Teke Spear with a hard wood shaft with wire decoration between the leafshape spearhead and the socket from the Congo, Central Africa. The Spear measures 1545mm long with a blade including the socket of 375mm. The Spear is in very fine condition.

A 19th century Teke Spear with a hard wood shaft and a double spear head4/ A 19th century Teke Spear with a hard wood shaft and a double spear head, one being barbed together with barbs at the base of the spear head from the Congo, Central Africa. The Spear measures 1545mm long with a blade including the socket of 425mm. The Spear is in very fine condition.

A rare late 19th century Tutsi Sickle Knife with a hard wood hilt6/  A rare late 19th century Tutsi Sickle Knife with a hard wood hilt and a single-edged curved blade from the Congo, Central Africa. The knife measures 485mm with a blade of 200mm. The Knife is in very fine condition.

 

A 19th century Masai Stabbing Spear with a cord-bound wooden hilt

7/ A 19th century Masai Stabbing Spear with a cord-bound wooden hilt, double-edge blade and wooden scabbard from Kenya, East Africa. The Spear measures 720mm with a blade of 265mm. The spear is in very fine condition.

An 18 19th century Ottoman Jambiya and sheath

8/ An 18/19th century Ottoman Jambiya and sheath with a wood-lined decorated leather scabbard, rounded rhinoceros horn hilt and a curved, double-edged Damascus blade.  Provenance: from and old Lincoln collection.  The Dagger measures 450mm long with a 270mm blade.

9/ A Moroccan Berber Jambiya Dagger early 19th century with a curved blade, waisted dark wood and brass decorated hilt and wood-lined brass scabbard with two metal bosses on each side chased with foliate designs.  Provenance: from and old Lincoln collection.  The Dagger measures 430mm long with a 240mm blade.

A 19th century Indonesian Malay Kris with silver inlaid wavy double-edged Damascus steel blade

10/ A 19th century Indonesian/Malay Kris with silver inlaid wavy double-edged Damascus steel blade, wood and ivory hilt and a dark and medium brown stained timoho wood sheath.  Provenance: from and old Lincoln collection.  The Kris measures 400mm long with a 270mm blade.

A mid 18th to 19th century Naginata consisting of a wooden shaft with inlaid abalone shell fleks

11/ A mid 18th to 19th century Naginata consisting of a wooden shaft with inlaid abalone shell fleks, a shaped iron and brass base and a curved blade together a laquered wooden scabbard.  The naginata blade was always forged in the same manner as traditional Japanese swords.  The Naginata measures 2270mm long with a blade of 350mm and is in very fine condition.

A Sikh Katar Punch Dagger with a fixed blade late 19th century to early 20th century

12/ A Sikh Katar Punch Dagger with a fixed blade, late 19th century to early 20th century.  The Katar measures 412mm with a blade of 250mm.

A 19th century Burmese Dha dagger short sword with a single edged slightly curved steel blade

13/ A19th century Burmese Dha dagger/short sword with a single edged slightly curved steel blade, cord bound hilt and cord bound wooden scabbard. The dha measures 544mm with a blade of 290mm. The dha is the national dagger of Burma.

14/ A classical Berber Jambiya from Morocco (locally called Koumaya), early 19th century with a curved blade, waisted hard wood hilt set in silver fitting and silver and brass scabbard with two metal bosses on each side chased with foliate designs.  Provenance: from and old French Colonial collection.  The Jambiya measures 430mm long with a 235mm blade.

An Indian Silver-Hilted Knife and Scabbard early 20th century

15/ An Indian Silver-Hilted Knife and Scabbard, early 20th century.  A double-edged blade with two fullers and midrib, pelletted guard, round-section wooden hilt with ornamental bronze and silver plaques, flared finial with concentric rings to the upper face; the scabbard with wooden core, outer sheath with ribbed transverse bands, geometric and floral ornament to both faces, marked 9-16 1937 (16th September 1937?) to one face, inlaid Arabic text to the reverse of the frog; ribbed knop finial.  Provenance: From a Swiss collection; acquired Kashgar, 1980s.  The artefact is in good condition although there is a crack in the scabbard.  315mm long and weighs 379gms.

A 19th century Indian Dhal shield of circular form

16/ A 19th century Indian Dhal shield of circular form.  The lacquered hide is painted with feathers and flourishes, with slightly lipped border and four brass star bosses.  On the reverse there are four steel rings holding the original velvet straps and knuckle rest.  Although there is a little fading, the artefact is in good condition and measures 350mm.

An 18th 19th Century Indian Shortsword Kora, also called a Kharga or Jamadhar Teg

17/ An 18th / 19th Century Indian Shortsword Kora, also called a Kharga or Jamadhar Teg.  The sword has a 510mm hand forged blade, sharp along the inside edge with an overall length of 650mm.  The artefact is in very fine condition.  Provenance: from and old Lincoln collection.

18/ Two South African Zulu Spears with cheater and snake skin decoration to the shafts, late 19th century.  From an old Norwich Collection

19/ A set of three Gurkha kukri knives from the mid 20th century.  From an old London Collection.
