Pottery Delights at November Auction – 2013

doultolambethflorencerobertsonOnce again our forthcoming Two Day Antiques, Fine Art and Collectors auction features a varied assortment of fine and interesting pottery from the 18th Century up to more modern pottery from the ever popular Moorcroft factory.

The sale includes a pair of Doulton Lambeth vases by Florence Roberts. The vases measure approx 12″, and a Doulton Lambeth Faience Pattern 7 plate by Ethel Beard.

The Royal Doulton Company began as a partnership between John Doulton, Martha Jones, and John Watts, with a factory at Vauxhall Walk, Lambeth, London. The business specialised in making stoneware articles, including decorative bottles and salt glaze sewer pipes.

IMGP0462The company took the name Doulton in 1853. By 1871, Henry Doulton, John’s son, launched a studio at the Lambeth pottery, and offered work to designers and artists from the nearby Lambeth School of Art and included George Tinworth followed by artists such as the Barlow family (Florence, Hannah, and Arthur), Frank Butler, Mark Marshall and Eliza Simmance. The Lambeth factory closed in 1956.

Fine Cloisonne Soft Paste Vase

Also included in the sale is a fine cloisonne soft paste vase. The vase measures approx 16″ high and features an intricate design of birds and flowers.

The Saturday & Sunday 23rd & 24th November Antiques, Fine Art & Collectors Sale starts at 9am each day. Viewing of items is from 8am on Friday 22nd November and the morning of the sale. The sale will also be available online for bidding through the Sale Room, EasyLiveAuction and LiveAuctioneers.
